Dean Kelley
Dean Kelley played for the Jayhawks from 1951 to 1953. In 1952, he was an important factor in the championship game, which the Jayhawks won against St. John™s. He scored seven points and pulled down three rebounds in the game. Because of his role in the 1952 conference and National championship team, he was selected a captain of the 1952-1953 season. This team also captured the Big Seven Conference title and was runner up in the 1953 championship game to Indiana. Kelley was also a member of the 1952 Olympic basketball team that won the gold medal against the Russians. For his outstanding defensive efforts, Kelley was selected to the NCAA All-Tournament team in 1952 and 1953, making him the only Kansas player to date to have been selected in multiple years. In 1955, Kelley played in the Pan Am Games in Mexico. In 1985, Kelley was inducted into the Greater Peoria Sports Hall of Fame and the Kansas Athletics Hall of Fame in 2008. Kelley passed away on January 13, 1996 in Colorado.
