Ron Neugent
Ron became the first male swimmer in 11 years to earn All-American honors for Kansas when he placed 11th in the 1,650 free at the 1983 NCAA Championships. On September 5, 1982, he set an American record for a 25-meter pool in the 1,500 meter free (15:01.77). In the course of two years, Ron set five school and two Big Eight records and won two Big Eight individual titles. He transfered to the Jayhawk program from SMU, where he earned All-American honors as a freshman by finishing 11th at the NCAA Championships. He also finished second in the 1,650 at the Southwest Conference Championships. Ron was a member of the 1980 U.S. Olympic team and the 1981 U.S. national team. In 1979, he gained national recognition when he won the 1,500 meter free at the World University Games.
