Tom Poor
Tom Poor helped lay the groundwork for a strong KU track tradition. Poor, known as the "Kansas Grasshopper", broke the Kansas high jump record just weeks after stepping foot on campus in 1921. Poor's accomplishments include winning the conference championship three consecutive years, breaking meet records 10 different times, and he claimed KU's first individual NCAA track championship in 1923. He also competed in the Olympics in 1924 while still a Jayhawk and finished fourth. Poor had lots of success in the Kansas Relays winning the high jump three times and also won the Drake Relays on two different occasions. In perhaps his greatest stretch, Poor claimed the Texas, Kansas, and Penn Relays in a four-week period in 1925.
