Jan Johnson
Jan Johnson's Kansas pole vaulting career was brief, but very productive none the less. His crowning achievement while a Jayhawk was when he won the 1970 NCAA Outdoor Championship in the pole vault after clearing an amazing 17 feet, 7 inches. His national championship made him KU's first outdoor All-American in the pole vault. After spending two seasons with the Jayhawks, he transferred to the University of Alabama to complete his collegiate career. His post-collegiate career was also very impressive as he competed in the 1972 and 1976 Olympic Games. In the 1972 games he won a bronze medal.
