Running the second leg of the event, Dick Blair joined with teammates Wes Santee, Ralph Moody and Frank Cindrich to break the world record in the sprint medley relay in a time of 3:20.2 at the 1954 Texas Relays. Two years later, Blair served as captain of the 1956 Kansas squad, finishing second in the 220-yard dash at the NCAA Outdoor Championships. He also won seven Big Seven Conference championships: the indoor 60-yard dash in 1955 and 1956; the outdoor 100-yard dash in 1955 and 1956; and the outdoor 220-yard dash in 1954, 1955 and 1956.
