Tommy Johnson
Tommy Johnson, a three-sport standout in the early 1900's, was once called the "greatest athlete ever to wear the colors of Kansas University" by the Lawrence Journal World. He began his career on the basketball court in 1905 where he led KU to its second winning season and a 12-7 record. Johnson left school and returned again in 1907 where he helped lead the Jayhawks to their best record in school history to that point. In the 1909-10 season, Johnson led the team in scoring while leading Kansas to its third straight conference title. For his accomplishments, Johnson was named KU's first ever All-American in any sport. Johnson stepped onto the gridiron in the fall of 1908 as the starting quarterback and helped guide the Crimson and Blue to an undefeated 9-0 season. In 1910, he led KU to a 5-1-1 season as the team's captain.
