Jeff Buckingham
As a freshman at Kansas in 1979, Jeff Buckingham won the Big Eight Indoor Conference Championship in the pole vault with a jump of 17 feet, 4 inches, before placing second at the NCAA Indoor Championships (17-3). He also won the Big Eight Outdoor Championship in the same year. Over the summer he vaulted a Kansas record 17-9. In 1980, Buckingham won both conference crowns again before having to sit out the 1981 season due to injury. As a junior in 1982, he set another school record by vaulting 17-10.25 at a dual meet against Nebraska. In 1983 as a senior, Buckingham set new school records again in the indoor vault (18-7.25) and the outdoor vault (18-10.75). He finished fourth at both the indoor and outdoor NCAA Championships that year.
