Clifford Wiley
Clifford Wiley a Douglass High School product out of Baltimore, Maryland would prove to be one of the greatest sprinters in Kansas history. His junior year he ran the third leg on the United States' world record setting 400 meter relay team which sped to a 38.03 clocking at the World Cup Games. Wiley also ran the fastest 300-yard dash time ever run on a board track when he ran 29.8 at the USTFF indoor meet. He also set the American Record in the 100 meter dash indoors with a time of 10.4 in Pocatello, Idaho. Aside from records Wiley had a banner year in 1977 winning Big Eight titles in the 300 indoors and the 100-meter outdoors; winning both the open division 100 and 200 at the Kansas Relays; winning the USTFF Outdoor 100 and 200, and earning All-American honors by running on KU's NCAA Indoor mile relay championship team. He's been and NCAA All-American each of his three years in school and won one other conference individual title-the 60 yard dash as a freshman. He also qualified for the 1980 Olympic team, but was not able to compete due to political tensions between the United State and Russia.
