Karl Salb
Few enter college with such credentials and then live up to and exceed expectations like Karl Salb did. Salb, a Crossett, Arkansas native, was an all-state football player and national champion in the shot put during his high school days. Salb then moved to Kansas where he dominated the college shot put scene from 1969-1971. During that span, Salb collected six straight national championships in the NCAA Indoor and Outdoor Championships. He also tried his hand at the discus and showed success there as well, finishing third at the NCAA Outdoor Championships in 1970 and fourth in 1971. Salb helped the Jayhawks claim Big Eight Indoor and Outdoor Championships in 1969-1971. He was instrumental in the Jayhawks success at the national level as well helping lead the Jayhawks to the NCAA Indoor Championship in 1969 and 1970 and a second place finish in the 1969 Outdoor Championship followed by a first place tie in the 1970 Outdoor Championship.
