Randy Smith
Randy Smith used an old-school approach to yield great resultsin the high jump. During his career at Kansas, Smith maintained the straddling technique to high jumping while most of his competitors used the more contemporary Fosbury "flop" in competition. No matter the technique, his results can't be questioned. His greatest achievement was when he won the NCAA Outdoor Championship in 1974 with a personal-record leap of 7 feet, 2 inches. He was a multiple winner of the Kansas Relays and won a U.S. Track & Field Federation championship by out-jumping world-record holder Dwight Stones. Following are just some of his achievements: -In 1975 he set a Big 8 indoor record of 7 ' 1-1/4". -At the outdoor NCAA championships, he placed sixth in 1973, first in 1974 and third in 1975. -1974 and 1975 KU Relays champion -1973 and 1974 Drake Relays champion -1975 Texas Relays champion -1974 U.S Track and Field Federation national champion (7'2") -Ranked eighth in the U.S. in 1973 - Ranked third in U.S. and 10th in world in 1974 -Ranked seventh in U.S. in 1975 Teams: Track & Field (Men's) 1972 Track & Field (Men's) 1973 Track & Field (Men's) 1974 Track & Field (Men's) 1975 All-American 1974 - Track & Field (Men's) 1975 - Track & Field (Men's) National Champion 1974 - Track & Field (Men's) Conference Champion 1974 - Track & Field (Men's) Captain 1974 - Track & Field (Men's) 1975 - Track & Field (Men's) Return to Search Results ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |
