Steven Wilhelm
Steve Wilhelm, a Los Altos, California native, was one of three Jayhawk men who dominated the sport of shot putting from 1969-1971. The trio of Karl Salb, Steve Wilhelm, and Doug Knop, finished 1-2-3, respectively, in the NCAA Indoor Championship in 1969 and 1970. Wilhelm also finished third in the 1971 NCAA Indoor Champioships. His toss of 65-1 at the National AAU meet earned him a spot on the U.S. team that competed throughout Europe during the summer of 1970. Wilhelm also excelled at the discus where he won the 1971 Big Eight Conference meet. During his time at KU, Wilhelm was a 5 time All-American, including the 1969 and 1970 outdoor shot put and 1969, 1970 and 1971 indoor shot put.
