Ronald Jessie
Ron Jessie was truly one of the elite athletes in Kansas athletics history. Competing in both football and track, Jessie was a standout in each. His speciality was the long jump. The Jayhawks turned to Jessie to led them to the 1969 NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championship. Jessie won a national title for himself as well in the long jump after completing a jump of 25 feet, 7 inches for the title. His talents weren't limited to the track as he was a standout football player for the Jayhawks in 1969 and 1970 serving as both a halfback and a flanker. He continued his football career in the NFL playing wide receiever for 11 years for the Detroit Lions, Los Angeles Rams and Buffalo Bills.
