Herald Hadley
Herald Hadley used a talent only he knew about to strike gold in the 1965 NCAA Indoor Championships. Hadley, who spent the majority of his career running shorter races, was a surprise entry into the race in the two-mile. He maximized his chance by winning the race in surprising fashion. He had not run a two-mile race since he won the 1963 Big Eight Conference Indoor Championships during his sophomore campaign. Hadley will forever go down as Bill Easton's last National champion. Hadley, who hails from tiny Shallow Water, Kansas, will forever go down as one of the top long-distance runners in KU track history. He now resides in Spokane, Washington where he owns his own lighting company.
