Billy Mills A gold-medalist in the 10,000-meter run in the 1964 Olympics, Billy Mills was inducted in 1976. A virtual unknown heading into the race, Mills' performance set a new Olympic record and marked the first and only time an American has won the 10,000-meter run. He later set a world record in the six-mile run in 1965. While at Kansas, Mills was a two-time NCAA cross country All-American, the 1960 Big Eight Conference cross country champion and a member of the 1959 and 1960 NCAA Championship track teams.
