Allen Frame
Allen Frame truly embodied the phrase student-athlete. Frame entered college after earning the Summerfield Scholarship which is only awarded to ten students in the whole state of Kansas. His successes moved to both cross-country and track upon entering college. Frame's career was highlighted with a win in the 1954 NCAA Cross Country Championship where he completed the four-mile course in just 19:54.2. Other accomplishments include winning the two-mile at the Big Seven Conference Indoor Track and Field Championships during his sophomore campaign. During his junior year he won the conference outdoor championship in the mile run. Frame was a leader both within the track team and the student body. Once Frame had the record for the fastest combined time for the one-mile and tw-mile double at a conference meet. While at KU Frame's teams never lost a conference championship meet. He was captain of the track team several times and was the KU Senior Class President in 1956. Frame was also part of Phi Beta Kappa. Upon his graduation Frame served for two years in the U.S. Army prior to returning to Kansas to get his law degree and received a Woodrow Wilson graduate scholarship.
