Richard Wilson
Richard "Dick" Wilson was a member of the 1953 Cross Country National Championship team. That team was the only KU cross country team to ever win a national championship. That same year him and his four-mile relay team broke the American record in the event. He came to Kansas on a cross country and track scholarship from Schenectady, NY. After running at KU, Wilson became a competitive Masters runner for more than 30 years. From 1985-2005, Wilson was nationally ranked in the top 10 for his age group and in 2003 he reached as high as number 2 in the nation and number 4 in the world for his age group. In 2008, Wilson was inducted into the KU Hall of Fame. Wilson passed away July 17, 2010 at the age of 78 from brain cancer.
