Floyd Temple
Floyd Temple began his Kansas career on the gridiron where he was a member of the football team from 1949-50. Where he starred, however, was on the baseball field. He was a member of Kansas' conference championship squad as a third baseman in 1949. He found his calling as a baseball coach when he was named so in 1954. During his 28 year stint as head coach, he compiled 438 victories and is the winningest coach in Kansas baseball history. During his tenure, Temple coached four All-Americans and had seven players make it to the major leagues. What is even more impressive about Temple's coaching accomplishments is that he was also an assistant coach for the football team from 1958-77. After retiring in 1981, Temple became an assistant athletics director from 1981-92.
